Biography

Gerardo Delgado, painter andalusian linked to the group New Generation the artist and the key in the development of the avant-garde of the 70s and 80s, shows his latest series of paintings at the art gallery of Fernández-Braso de Madrid.

Gerardo Delgado (Olivares, Seville, 1942), is a painter and architect who form part of the artistic avant-garde from Spanish to participate in the flagship exhibition New Generation, that took place in the gallery Edurne of Madrid in 1967. It was a collective exhibition organized and curated by critic and painter from madrid Juan Antonio Aguirre, who selected, among others, artists such as Alexanco, Barbadillo, Gordillo, Elena Asins, Yturralde, Gerardo Delgado and the Aguirre. The group of artists gathered was heterogeneous, nourished by different artistic sensibilities and with different interests plastic, but that he shared the desire to overcome the exhausted informalist movement. Broadly, the subjectivity, the tendency to improvisation and the political compromise gave way to the objectivity, the planning and the desire to emphasize the playful aspect of the work of art. In contrast to the absence of defined forms of abstract expressionism developed languages that use the figuration in its different aspects, whether recognizable forms or compositions purely abstract.

Gerardo Delgado is identified from the beginning of his long career with these new values, caring for a work look constructivist and formal, defined by compositions that develop structures and modules of the vivid colors and whose repetition of elements provides a great visual rhythm to each composition. In these first and decisive years Gerardo Delgado was interested in the involvement of the public in the artistic experience, in the relationship between work and spectator. Were the years in which it was a part of two historical facts of the period's art that will definitely marked: the Seminar of Automatic Generation of Plastic Forms of the Computation Center of the University of Madrid and the Meetings of Pamplona, 1972. As you progress the decade of the seventies, Gerardo Delgado is evolving towards more and more complex and conceptual, performing installations of large canvases hanging from the ceiling that generated spaces envelopes . At this time shows his work in galleries Juana de Aizpuru of Seville and Lolas Velasco Madrid, as well as at the Miró Foundation of Barcelona and in the Palacio de Cristal in Madrid.

In the eighties, the artist gives us a twist to your work, focusing on aspects most immediate and introducing figurative elements which tend to a certain expressionism, a fact that accentuates the middle of the decade when entering in your paintings found objects. The series features these years are "In the white city", "The Prophet", "The Ruins" and "The Archipelago". In these years he has exhibited in galleries Montenegro and Egam of Madrid, Miguel Marcos Zaragoza and Joan Prats, Barcelona. Participates in the "Aperto 86" of the Venice Biennale and at the opening of the halls of the Canal de Isabel II in Madrid.

The decade of the nineties is a very fruitful in terms of important exhibitions and series of paintings. Showing his works at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Seville and in the Episcopal Palace of Malaga, as well as in the Palace of the Dukes of Granada. Include the series "self-Portrait: the artist in the window" and, especially, "Paths", work fully abstract and very structured, which creates paths and itineraries blurred by the use of the black, "which encourage us to walk and get lost in the twists and turns of the labyrinth", according to the words of Gerard. In the nineties he exhibited in the gallery Gamarra and Garrigues of Madrid, in the galería Fúcares of Almagro and the Banco Zaragozano. In the last decade in Miracles Delicate of Cadiz, as well as in the Museum and in the College of Architects of the latter city. Also in the room Robayera of Miengo.
