Gerardo Delgado (Olivares, Seville, 1942), pintor andaluz linked to the group New Generationat the Center of Calculation, the Meetings of Pamplona and artist instrumental in the development of the avant-garde of the 70s and 80s, shows his latest series of paintings at the art gallery of Fernández-Braso of Madrid, the first after his retrospective exhibition of 2017 in the Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art of Seville.
GEOMETRIES ENCOUNTERED. 2017-2018
The exhibition consists of a selection of paintings made after the retrospective of 2017 the Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art of Seville. The tour of the exhibition ended with the series Night, broken Glassbased on some drawings of 1995. The paintings were made on a background informal of various shades of red on which is traced a grid, with each rectangle angular shapes geometric pointed treated with a single color flat black.
During the installation of the exhibition Gerardo Delgado conceived a new set, Broken windows, the series that made up the exhibition in the gallery Fernández-Braso. It consists in a simplification of the Night: only four rectangles separated by two lines, one vertical and the other horizontal. The formal development of the works is creating irregular surfaces and asymmetrical, full of dynamic counterpoints, two worlds contrary, and on top of geometries encountered.
The historical work of Gerardo Delgado of the late 60's and early 70's, she starred in the stand monographic the gallery Fernández-Braso dedicated ARCOlisboa 2018. The Collection of Helga de Alvear, and has recently introduced works of this period to your collection.
Gerardo Delgado started his career in the gallery of seville The Gateway, where he exhibited in 1968, as well as in the Gallery Edurne of Madrid, where he participated in the legendary exhibition New Generation next to artists like Alexanco, Teixidor, Yturralde, Elena Asins, and Barbadillo, among others, united in their estrangement from the mainstream of abstract Expressionism.
Throughout his artistic career, Gerardo Delgado has exhibited in prestigious galleries in Spain, and Juana de Aizpuru, Edurne, René Metras, Joan Prats, Egam, Gamarra and Garrigues, Fernández-Braso, etc., and participated in events such as the biennial of Venice, and Rio de Janeiro. His work is exhibited in museums and collections such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Juan March Foundation, Andalusian Centre of Contemporary Art, Museum of Navarra, Cajasol Foundation, La Caixa Foundation and The Chase Manhattan Bank, N. A. among others.
