Poet, writer, critic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Write Guillermo P\u00e9rez Villalta (GPV) in his autobiography&nbsp;<em>Mirror memory<\/em>&nbsp;(Editions Mechanical Mole, 2020) that \u201cthe drawing lacks the color tones which make it more vivid the beauty of the light and the atmosphere, that feeling metaphysical away from the time of the transient and of the contemplative. Some artists, such as Seurat and Bonnard, showed me the path. Also it gave me feelings several Spanish artists of the TWENTIETH century, as Cristino de Vera or Xavier Valls, unjustly forgotten by the critics\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class='yrm-content yrm-content-1 yrm-content-hide' id='yrm-o241D' data-id='1' data-show-status='false' data-after-action='' style=\"visibility: hidden;height: 0;\">\n\t\t\t<div id='yrm-inner-content-yrm-o241D' class='yrm-inner-content-wrapper yrm-cntent-1'><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the starting point of the exhibition of drawings art gallery Fern\u00e1ndez-Braso dedicated to artists Cristino de Vera (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1931), Guillermo P\u00e9rez Villalta (Rate, 1948) and Xavier Valls (Barcelona, 1923-2006).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOr white, or black. Or tradition or avant-garde. Or conceptual, or, as it was then, retinal,\u201d writes Enrique Andr\u00e9s Ruiz in the introductory text of the catalogue of this exhibition. They both share the title, \u201cWhite, black, and, sometimes, grey\u201d, which in turn corresponds to a quote from one of the foundation books of Postmodernism:&nbsp;<em>Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture<\/em>written by the architect Robert Venturi in 1966. \u201cIt was a book read by MANAGERS in their early student \u2014protest\u2014 Architecture (the Spanish edition Gustavo Gili is of 1972). It was with him to defend an idea, eclectic style, through a reading inclusive of the legacy of the tradition, and in any case of a revolt against the idea of purity that the&nbsp;<em>modernism&nbsp;<\/em>he had justified only in the functional necessity, in the decanting quasi-chemical forms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, the exposure, through the ideas and reflections that Enrique Andr\u00e9s Ruiz develops in the catalog, becomes an opportunity to vindicate not only the drawing as an artistic expression in contemporary high interest, also to remember, appreciate and discuss the points of view, tensions and frictions that have taken place over the past decades and whose validity is still palpable today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three artists united by the uniqueness and originality of their work, for their ability to stay true to their principles, aesthetic and intellectual.
