Works 2019-2020
The art gallery Fernández-Braso presents, for the second time in this space, an exhibition dedicated to the artist, Rosa Brun (Madrid, 1955). The sample is part of a program Opening 2020, organised by the Association of Art galleries Madrid. The exhibition is formed by a fortnight of works made in the last two years. It is a step forward in regard to the proposal shown in the last exhibition held at the gallery in 2016.
In those works, the polished finish, almost industrial, the angularity of the plans and overlays and the marked interest in overcoming the notion of limit connecting the viewer with the paint contemplative, transcendental, in the wake of Rothko and Newman.
The vibrant color and contrasted, sometimes radical, in contrast, remains and stars in the new series of works, half-way between the neo-plasticism and constructivism; between the collage, relief, and painting.
The appearance of plastic and industrial transforms into an interest in the qualities and natural textures. The wood and the paper passed all of its intensity material at the time that the compositions become more dynamic and fragmented, in the line of artists such as Günther Förg or Imi Knoebel.
As pointed out in 2017, Juan Manuel Bonet in the text of the catalogue of the retrospective exhibition dedicated to Rosa Brun in the CEART of Fuenlabrada, “if you have gone through times that it has almost been able to seem an applied heiress of the austerity of puritan of a Donald Judd, there has been other –see for example his recent exhibition in Fernández-Braso- on their way to trim and question the support, of overflowing its boundaries, it could refer to a certain type of exercises, manipulation of the elements of the painting that were brand of the French house Support-Surface, as given to decompose the elements of the painting...”
